This morning, our Government opened another Hope & Justice Centre, this time in Region Three at Vergenoegen. This historic collaboration between the Attorney General’s Chambers & Ministry of Legal Affairs and the Ministry of Human Services & Social Security will provide the public with a number of important services under one roof.
This Centre is intended to specifically cater for victims of family, interpersonal, and sexual violence, trafficking in person and child abuse cases. This facility offers medical and legal services, counseling, and the services of the Guyana Police Force.
This is another initiative under the Support for the Criminal Justice Programme executed by the Government of Guyana and financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
In attendance at today’s opening were also the, Hon. Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Prime Minister deputising for His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Hon. Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Hon. Deodat Indar, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Representatives from the IDB, Regional Officials and others.
