AG appeals for feedback on draft amendments to the Sexual Offences Act
The Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall, SC, has called upon the opposition and other stakeholders to carefully review and provide feedback on the proposed amendments to the Sexual Offences Act of 2010.
The draft document was released on May 27, with a 21-day window for receiving recommendations and proposals from the public and key stakeholders. This move is part of the government’s commitment to seeking input on significant legislative changes.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall, SC, has refuted claims of unfair property acquisitions in Peter’s Hall, providing detailed information about the extensive consultation process and the compensation measures in place.
This comes after the government signed a $52 billion (US$260 million) contract in May 2022 with China Railway and Construction Corporation Limited to build a new four-lane bridge across the Demerara River, requiring the relocation of approximately 20 properties.

In efforts to further boost its services, a speedboat and 200-horsepower motors, was gifted to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) on Wednesday.
During the handing over ceremony held at the Parika Police Station, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Adele Diane Tricia Cole-Clarke presented the speedboat and engine valued over $8 million to Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot.

ATTORNEY-General and Minister of Legal Affairs Mohabir Anil Nandlall, S.C. has refuted claims suggesting that he “secretly” filed the appeal to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) seeking to overturn the local Court of Appeal’s ruling on the case involving the unlimited parent guarantee.
During an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Sunday evening, the Attorney-General clarified that the application was filed in accordance with the guidelines set by the CCJ.

IN a move to address Venezuela’s persistent aggression towards Guyana, Attorney-General Anil Nandlall has outlined a plan to mobilise international support and condemnation through parliamentary channels.
The backdrop to Nandlall’s remarks stems from recent developments in Venezuela, where lawmakers allied to President Nicolás Maduro approved the creation of a new state in Guyana’s resource-rich Essequibo region.
Despite ongoing proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Venezuela has attempted to assert itself to lay claim to Guyana’s territory, citing a December referendum as so-called “justification.”
