To ensure that proper legal services are provided to the Government; to provide statutory services to the public relating to the public trust and bankruptcy matters; and to register titles, mortgages, companies, societies and other bodies as well as other documents, as required by the law.
Organisation and Management
The Ministry of Legal Affairs, is comprised of the following departments:
- Attorney-General's Chambers
- Public Trustee/ Official Receiver's Department.
- Deeds Registry
- Office of the Ombudsman
- Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions
The Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs heads the Ministry politically, while the Permanent Secretary is its administrative head.
The Ministry of Legal Affairs does not have any day-to-day supervisory control over the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Ombudsman and the Judiciary, but for the purposes of Parliamentary accountability, the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs is answerable.
